General description of the collection: The Robert A. McClure photograph collection consists of images of Robert A. McClure (1897-1957) as a child and as a cadet at the Kentucky Military Institute ca. 1917. There are several snapshots of McClure as an instructor at the Infantry School, Fort Benning, Georgia, in the late 1920s, and while a student at the Army War College (AWC) in 1936. There is a November 1941 image of Brigadier General McClure, as assistant military attacheĢ in London, with Prime Minister Churchill, other officers, and civilians. There are images related to his service as intelligence officer, G-2, Allied Force Headquarters (HQ), European Theater of Operations (ETO); as chief of Information and Censorship Section, Allied Force Headquarters, and as the chief of Psychological Warfare of SHAEF. Post-World War II images document his service as the information control officer for the Military Government in Germany and as chief of the New York Field Office of the Civil Affairs Division from 1947-1949. The collection also includes images of the McClure family and their living quarters in Fort Benning, Georgia, in the late 1920s; in Berlin, Germany, in 1946; and at Vancouver Barracks, Portland, Oregon, ca. 1949. There are images of Richard A. McClure, youngest son of Robert, taken as a cadet, at his graduation from the United States Military Academy (USMA) in 1947, and images of his service in Korea with the United States Air Force (USAF) including a series taken on a 307th Bombardment Group mission over North Korea in September 1950.
